1
Meeting to discuss Kaon-LT Efficiencies for Normalized Yield
2
                               22-Jun-02
3

4
                        (Notes by GH and SJDK)
5

6
Attendees: Stephen Kay, Garth Huber, Ali Usman, Richard Trotta, Vijay Kumar
7

8
Ali Usman
9
---------
10
- shows Heep COIN data/MC comparo using Richar's script
11

12
- Richard tried to automate the charge normlisation
13
   - Didn't seem to work particularly well
14
   - Data ends up far smaller than SIMC
15
   - Manual vs automated calculation
16
      - Dummy charge is almost exactly correct, since it's only one run
17
      - Data number is way off
18
         - 40% of manual calculation
19
      - RT - Probably got the reason, hadd doesn't do scalers correctly
20
      - AU's manual calculation was just manually grabbing numbers from report
21
file for 4 files, so didn't have the hadd problem
22
   - GH - For consistency, *should get charge from the report file*
23
      - Efficiencies script can just grab this anyway
24

25
- New cuts file with Singles and Coin track efficiencies
26
   - All events now processed, so will take longer to process
27
   - SK - Test a very large file, how long does it take?
28
      - I'll try and find a very large file
29
   - the output ROOT file should only contain "loosely good" events, to save
30
space and processing time. GH calls this "skimmed data"
31
      - Skim cuts:
32
         - good COIN events w/tracks in both spectr
33
         - good delta cuts on both spectr
34
	 - No PID cut on SHMS, loose HMS-CAL cut for electrons
35
      - GH: Need to be careful when including detector cuts, though
36
         - e.g. When was the HMS cherenkov mirror fixed?
37
         - Had a large crack across it, completely broken
38
         - Was replaced June 2018 - https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3576642
39
	 - *RT will make a plot of HMS eff vs (x,y)* [similar to what is
40
done for HGC] from the skimmed data, to make sure all is okay
41

42
- a 2nd explanation for the narrower Pmiss, Emiss peaks by SIMC compared to
43
data that Ali sees could be that the assumed beam energy spread in the SIMC
44
  input file is too small
45
   - Arc energy measurement doesn't include energy spread -> Check with DG on
46
*where we can get energy spread info*
47
      - Beam energy width broadens with pass # and beam energy
48
         - Wider as a percentage of a larger number, so it's a lot,
49
particularly for 5-pass 10+ GeV beam
50
         - Someone will need to chase down someone at JLab regarding this
51
         - An example log entry - https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3909335
52

53
Richard Trotta
54
--------------
55
- Was seeing randoms in Heep coin time plot
56
   - *need to place cuts around prompt peak and do random subtraction*
57
   - also need to investigate MM, to see if there is an inelastic contribution
58
at higher energy that needs to be cut out
59

60
- After scaling MC data, shapes actually look OK on HeeP data
61
   - Just need to sort out the charge normalisation
62
   - Shapes of missing momentum are very odd
63
      - Discussed in meeting yesterday (KaonLT meeting)
64
      - Eqns between SIMC/hcana are different for missing momentum etc
65
         - RT/AU probably have to fix this, but it's better to try simpler
66
solutions first, such as the beam energy spread
67
      - Vijay sees similar effect but much smaller due to lower energy
68

69
- Efficiencies script
70
   - grabs kin from standard.kinematics
71
   - Cer Effs, from Vijay's script, but not yet incorporated
72
   - pi-Abs corr and Target Info, to do
73
   - Time added in csv script
74
   - Keys in dict
75
      - Just need new variables from Ali
76
   - GH - Would be nice to have a quick demo w/o the variables you're waiting
77
     on from Ali
78

79
- Plots for Vijay's Hall A/C talk
80
  - RT will make some plots of Effs vs Run #
81
  - AU will finish template files
82
  - Aim to reprocess KaonLT replay (all data over the weekend)
83

84
- AU raises issues with the *Calorimeter Effs*
85
  - reminder that everyone needs to do a study for their assigned run periods
86
  - one person can do a study for their run period, and others then just
87
optimize the cuts for theirs, and not start from scratch
88

89
Next meeting:
90
- Mon Jun 13 @ 15:00 Eastern
(56-56/443)
