Sigma/Lambda analysis
24
- fitting Sigma0 yield, high epsilon KaonLT data
25
- subtracts Randoms, MT, pion leakthrough
26
- use MC templates to fit Lambda, Sigma0 peaks
27
  - allows to shift data by a few MeV to make peaks match
28

29
- reran SIMC w/ resmult=3.5 factor from Ali
30
  - modification in shms_mchut.f
31
- compare data and MC, for pions due to greater statistics
32
  - fit MM peak w/ simple Gaussian + bkd function, extract pi+n center and
33
    width
34
  - increase in MC peak width agrees well with Ali's values, but still much
35
    narrower than data
36
  - even a factor of 3.5 implies a tracking resolution >0.5mm, definitely
37
unreasonable to increase it further to better describe the data
38

39
- Junaid: it's important to remove NGC from SIMC since it was not there for
40
  KaonLT running
41
  - haven't done this yet, yes it's important but it will make the resolution
42
    discrepancy even worse, not better
43

44
- shows plot of pi+n center vs p_SHMS, a correlation is seen, peak shifts from
45
~0.95 at low momentum to ~0.935 at high momentum
46
  - Dave: we've been looking more closely recently at 2022 SHMS data, getting
47
some weird effects starting as low as p_SHMS=4 GeV/c
48
    - spoke with Mark about it, apparently there are some saturation effects
49
start as low as 4 GeV/c, which is a surprise
50
    - *NB* suggest to keep looking for correlations of MM peak with focal plane
51
and target variables, see if we can find a way to correct it
52
      - it may be clearer to start first looking at the KaonLT Heep data
53

-------
56
Q2=4.4 KaonLT analysis
57
- looking in more detail at cut differences between high and low epsilon, both
58
to better understand where sig_lo>sig_hi is coming from and for systematics
59
  study
60
  - sig_lo ~10% larger than sig_hi for many bins
61
  - the main differences between high and low epsilon are:
62
    - no right SHMS for low epsilon
63
    - HGC hole cut larger for high epsilon
64
      - asked GH about HGC hole cuts
65
      - Vijay's study was for the low epsilon data with smaller HGC hole
66
      - had done a quick set of HGC cuts for thesis, now need to do a more
67
        careful study
68

69
- looking at lambda peak, clearly there is an extra bkd not included in the
70
  pion subtraction
71
  - Garth: *NB* the difference between data and pion leakthrough curve to left
72
of Lambda peak is nonzero but nearly flat, could try fitting a flat bkd fit
73
to 1.02<MM<1.07 region and subtract it off
74
  - Alicia has a better idea: the pion bkd underneath Lambda has a different
75
    t-dependence than pi+n
76
    - normalizing to pi+n peak can lead to an undersubtraction of bkd beneath
77
      Lambda
78
    - *NB* suggest to scale pion bkd to region left of Lambda (1.02 to 1.08),
79
it will oversubtract pi+ region but probably give a cleaner result in
80
      Lambda region
81
   - Nacer: usually people try to fit bkd with a polynomial
82
     - Richard: *NB* will try a bunch of different subtraction methods, we will
83
choose a favorite one for the final result and use the others as part of
84
       the systematics calculation
85

KaonLT Q2=0.5 LT-sep
89
- doing SIMC weight recalculation script checks
90
  - using Junaid's new weight script
91
- Richard: has a script that moves files from volatile to cache and copies each
92
instance in a different directory, it's very useful when doing iterations
93

96
KaonLT Q2=0.5 BSA
97
- plots of MM for each t-phi bin
98
  - Green=K+ w/dummy subtraction, Red=pion subtraction, Violet=K+ randoms
99
    Blue=K+ after all subtractions
100
  - for pion bkd normalization, there are no pi+n events at higher -t, using
101
    closest t-bin for the normalization
102
    - get a bit of under/over subtraction in Lambda region
103
    - there is no bin where the oversubtraction is very large, planning to deal
104
with this as a systematic uncertainty
105

106
- new BSA uncertainty calculation
107
  - instead of using bkd-subtracted yields, derive a new formula where pion bkd,
108
randoms and Lambda before subtractions are explicitly included
109
    P=pion bkd, R=randoms
110
  - Alicia and Ivan independenty derived the same formula
111
  - now get positive definite results everywhere, even for cases where the bkd
112
is large, while previously there were some cases with sqrt(negative number)
113

114
- plot of sig_LT' vs t
115
  - fit BSA with new errors vs phi
116
  - some outlier points due to sqrt(negative number) fixed, leads to slightly
117
different BSA values when combining L,C,R SHMS settings
118
  - BSA now has fewer fluctuations, sinusoidal curve more noticeable now
119
  - LT' errors are larger now with new formula
120

121
- will refine scripts and continue systematic studies
122

125
u-channel: feeding Pythia into SIMC
126
- trying for Q2=3, W=3.14 SHMS center setting
127

128
- Pythia inputs: xmin=0.15, xmax=0.35, ymin=0.56, ymax=0.66
129
  - can control the electron with kinematic inputs, but not so much the proton
130
  - the desired u-channel data is at end of proton momentum distribution
131
  - added a new flag to keep only p_SHMS>5.4 GeV/c
132
  - fortunately theta_proton is centered on SHMS acceptance
133

134
- Henry Klest had modified pythia6_eic.f to define program inputs and outputs
135
  - added ePmin - event not saved if proton momentum too low
136
  - skipping the generation of exclusive events, since these are already in
137
    SIMC
138
  - 1M evts run in ~5 min, produce 1k evts after cuts
139
- an annoyance is that the Pythia script doesn't allow it to run in bkd, need a
140
terminal prompt every few minutes to keep iFarm connection from dying
141
  - have to keep jobs <1M evts
142

143
- result: 5M evts in Pythia give 5k evts after cuts, of these 311 make it
144
  through SIMC
145
  - mostly not making the proton arm, investigating
146
  - checking Pythia acceptance variables
147
    - SHMS_ypfp looks like an issue
148
    - HMS_ypfp not centered at zero, most events are rejected
149

150
- result: 20M Pythia evnts, 19k output, 1233 SIMC events
151
  - the MM shape looks reasonable, still need to do detailed comparo w/data
152

155
PionLT LT-sep preparations
156
- using Tanja's functional form
157
  - in sigL, p7 in exponential and p8,p9 in denominator are all fixed for now
158
  - fitting all other parameters
159

160
- weight recalc script, appplying to SIMC file output by recon_hcana
161
  - Dave: it's important to use Ratio method to recalculate the weight, to
162
retain radiative correction, virtual flux factor, Jacobian
163
    - Weight=sigCM*Jacobian*GammaFlux*RadCorr
164
    - Weight_new=sigCM_new/sigCM_old*Weight_old
165
  - tried one iteration, ratios jumped from ~1 to ~40, clearly an error in the
166
    weight recalculation script
167
  - *NB* recon_hcana does not touch the weight or cross section, no other
168
corrections are necessary that are not in the above equations
169

PionLT coin deadtime investigations
173
- still debugging weird CT issues
174
  - finally has a straight CT line vs xfp_HMS
175
  - now using pTRIG4(HMS-ELREAL) instead of pTRIG3(HMS-3/4)
176
  - changed time window cuts slightly execpt for HT2, PT2
177
    - now using a cut on HT2, no cut on PT2
178
    - still needs to check that PT2 did not screw up SHMS
179
- Dave: only need cuts on quantities used to calculate CoinTime
180
  - should use 1 and 3, ELREAL should have same timing as 3/4, the difference
181
is only on extra PID info
182
  - *NB* will try PT3 cuts intead of PT4, and check SHMS
183

184
- once has a set of runs with no CT anomalies, will start CoinBlocking study
185
  - will do a write up for RedMine
186
