Jun 28/22 PionLT/KaonLT Analysis Meeting Notes ---------------------------------------------- (Notes by GH and SJDK) Please remember to post your slides at: https://redmine.jlab.org/projects/kltexp/wiki/Kaon_LT_Meetings Present: Regina - Vijay Kumar, Garth Huber, Stephen Kay, Nathan Heinrich, Ali Usman, Love Preet, Muhammad Junaid Ohio - Jacob Murphy CUA - Vladimir Berdnikov, Richard Trotta FIU - Pete Markowitz Richard Trotta Updates ---------------------- - Updated KaonLT redmine task list - All dates are updated, Gantt chart actually works - Can add plots/slides to each task - Issues are linked on the task list - Update/add READMEs and code as needed - *People need to add links to their work* - Add cryo boiling results from Hall A/C meeting (B Henry) as a resource? - How do ours differ/compare? - RT reports that the analysis schedule seems to be mostly holding ok these last few months - HGC efficiencies script added to Richard's efficiency script - received code from Vijay and implemented in script - Need to get different cut values/shapes for different mirror configurations/run periods i.e. before and after HGC mirror realignment - presently using hole cut for after alignment only - *Ali will have to optimize the HGC efficiency cut* (for pi+) according to SHMS momentum - Hodoscope calibrations - Run 6762 (6.2 GeV) SHMS looks bad. Weird wiggles in beta vs xfp, dp - *Vijay needs to look at this* for his data too - LT/Separation software - RT has forked Bill's code on GitHub and has started making edits - Links to files on Loon are broken in notes Bill had on the LT separation scripts - GH subsequently found the files in an old backup of Bill's directory and posted a copy for RT, AU, VK - Discussion on Lambda/Sigma fitting (lineshape from SIMC to MM data) - the MM data distribution needs to be fitted with: a) Lambda peak shape from SIMC b) Sigma peak shape from SIMC c) Estimate of pion leakthrough (from pion sample, similar to how Vijay has demonstrated) - Sigma can't be done independently of the Lambda, since some of the Lambda tail overlaps with the Sigma - In best case scenario, the details of the Sigma fit are not overly sensitive to the Lambda fitting, and the two can be decoupled once they're close to the final values - In worst case scenario, both the Lambda and Sigma fits need to be revised each iteration, in a manner similar to how Bill had to handle the huge background underneath the Omega peak Ali Usman Updates ----------------- - Updates to scripts/files and templates - HMS/SHMS singles cut files - For HeeP singles and Lumi - Aerogel 1.011 has a smaller tray size, all of the others are the same (Richard looked up the aerogel tray sizes) - Only two cut ranges needed - Cuts seem very broad? - 1.011 is actually very small compared -30 to 30 and -40 to 40 roughly - has two versions of the cut files, one for each aerogel cut - Heep singles/SIMC comparo should be good to go - EDTM livetime calculations, now included in PionLT online data - Discussion of what PS scale factor is implemented in Ali's code - PS factors in report file are off? - PS values entered in the GUI, not the actual factors - Is this true? - Need to replace factors with other variables - Double check this - Missing variable calculations in SIMC - *need to apply same aerogel tray cuts* to data, effs, MC - same will be true for HGC hole cut - what cuts are applied depends on whether selecting pi+ or K+ in analysis - Drafting write-up for hodoscope efficiency calculation - This is done in hcana - will circulate a draft next week - SIMC input file energy spread - will make changes to data MM calculation to make the equations the same as those used in SIMC, since SIMC result seems better resolution Vijay Kumar Updates ------------------- - Working on offsets for 4.9 GeV data - added xtar, ytar, xptar, yptar MC/Data comparo plots - can adjust ytar center of target in SIMC input file to get better agreement - yptar overall looks good, but data have tails that SIMC doesn't show - With 0.13% offset applied, MMK shifted too far to the left (was on the right) - Momentum offset worked for one Heep setting, but not the Physics - at least the good news is that the real offset is smaller than 0.13%, not larger - *Separate momentum offsets should be found* for different energies - Need to look at the summer data too - the idea is to first find out what offsets are needed to optimize each Heep setting, and then we can look if there is a trend, or if they are consistent, before deciding what to do globally - Multiple offsets to play around with, not just momentum - after Heep-coin offsets are found, we can then look at Heep-singles to - confirm the offset is applied to the correct spectrometer - tiny adjustments can be made to physics replay to optimize MC comparo Jacob Murphy Updates -------------------- - Finished up EDTM study report - Updates and clarifications to EDTM calculation correction values - rewrote the LT formula to put the prescale factors in 1/PSF format, so the formulas work out more nicely - *Event Type 3* can only occur if there are both HMS+SHMS singles and COIN is pre-scaled but not fired for that event, or an EDTM event - maybe the early PionLT data with prescaled COIN can provide a useful check of our understanding? - EDTM pulses can have ALL trigger types, can only separate them out via event handler - Very nice graphical guide presentation on events types, explaining how DT works for various event types based on timing and priority (i.e. who blocks whom) Nathan Heinrich Updates ----------------------- - HGC calibration script nearly done, running a test Muhammad Junaid Updates ----------------------- - Calorimeter and DC calibrations - Plots from last run period next meeting - Will post sooner - *MJ should help JM with new data calibs* Next Meeting ------------ Tuesday July 12 @ 11:30 Eastern, after RC meeting
