** Resolved a minor bug in the pion subtraction uncertainty calculation and refined the pion scaling factor to enhance subtraction accuracy. Additionally, a new formulation for the unseparated cross section was implemented, based on the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality and constrained by L,T>0.
21
** Using the updates described above, new models were constructed for Q2=4.4Q2=4.4 and W=2.74W=2.74. Comparisons between data and SIMC show good agreement, with stable ratios and solid cross section fits. While further refinements are needed, this model provides a strong foundation.

** Corrections to the calculation of θ, using the proper Λ mass, yield more reasonable values. However, the LT and TT terms require adjustment to accurately account for these changes. A more pronounced t-dependence is now evident and must be better described.

** Although the Q² = 3.0, W = 3.14 ratio appears promising at first glance, the kinematic and acceptance plots clearly indicate that the older functional form provides a superior fit. Encouragingly, the three key scaling points—Q²/W = 3.0/2.32, 4.4/2.74, and 5.5/3.02—continue to use this form consistently. These will be the main focus in preparation for the upcoming Hall A/C meeting in June.

** A dip in the unseparated cross section at 180° was traced to a ROOT issue: while a cut on the NTuple successfully excluded bad data in the TGraph, the TF2 fitting function ignored the cut; this was resolved by applying the cut directly in the Fortran script before loading into ROOT.
90 1059 Richard Trotta

** Q² = 3.0, W = 2.32 analysis is progressing well. The t-dependence of the ratios is flat, with minimal structure, consistent with the same functional form used at Q² = 4.4 and 5.5. Some tuning of the W-dependence is still needed to bring the ratios closer to unity. Kinematics and acceptances between data and SIMC are closely matched. However, an unusually large LT/TT cross-section has been observed and warrants further investigation.

** At Q² = 3.0 and W = 2.32, the ratios appear to be converging when using the functional forms derived from Q² = 4.4 and 5.5. Additional iterations are needed to confirm this trend, but the current functional forms seem to perform well across all three Q² settings.

** The setting Q² = 5.5, W = 3.02 aligns well with the functional form used at Q² = 4.4, W = 2.74. However, statistics are limited at this Q², and the kinematic coverage extends into higher |t| values (tₘₐₓ ≈ 0.9). To improve the statistical reliability, tₘₐₓ will be reduced, which should yield slightly improved ratios in the upper bin. This high-|t| behavior is consistent with observations at Q² = 3.0, W = 2.32 and Q² = 4.4, W = 2.74. Focus will now shift to the Q² = 3.0, W = 2.32 setting.

** Properly Calculated Statistical Uncertainties
1031
*** Ali and I went through and properly implemented statistical uncertainties (double-checked with Garth on Monday). This included updating HMS cerenkov and calorimeter efficiencies that needed to use a "golden singles run" to avoid contamination. A bug in the ratio per bin was fixed so that proper average ratio per bins were found.
1032
** SIMC Aerogel/HGCer geometric cuts were implemented.
1033
** Particle Subtraction Script was updated. Just need pion samples from Ali.
1034
** Beginning Unsep-xsect Systematic Studies
1035
** Continued issues with generating new parameterization
1036
*** Unsep xsect fits are starting to look good, but the script to generate improved parameterization generates insane fits. Likely a change to the model is needed. In particular, sigT will need adjustments.

** Update on the SIMC resolution study for Kaon-LT 10.6 GeV data.
1045
** SIMC SHMS DC resolution was tunned to have better agreement b/w data nnd MC. A large resolution multiplication factor of 9 is used. This will hopefully decrease with improvement in data resolution.
1046
** SIMC HMS DC resolution (suggested by Dave G.) doesn't make a huge difference.
1047 710 Ali Usman
** The resolution of MC looked worse than data after t-bining. This will be improved with a lower multiplication factor.

** SIMC Weight
1058
*** In order to get Ydata/Ysimc to be even close to unity I needed to divide the SIMC weight by 10^6. I was applying the weight for the histograms but not binned data.
1059
** SIMC MM
1060
*** The long radiative tail from simc MM has mostly been resolved by using the correct decay length and properly recalculating the MM using recon_hcana.
1061
** MM PID Analysis
1062
*** Played around with MM cuts to see PID of leak through/higher K+ channels.
1063
*** Increasing aerogel cut from aero > 3.0 to > 4.5 should resolve some of the issues, but more probably needs to be done.
1064
** MM cut: Yield Comparison
1065
*** Using an MM cut of 1.10 < MM < 1.18 produced shockingly consistent yields for Q2=2.115

** Issues with dummy runs
1086
*** The dtype error for some dummy runs was caused by empty trees when applying the CT cuts.
1087
*** The source of these fails cuts was because the CT offset applied at the replay level was skipped for these runs and thus the CT peak was not where the cut expected.
1088
** Weird t-distribution
1089
*** Multiple peaks seen in the t-distribution were caused by various particle leakthrough.
1090
*** This was cleaned up a bit by implimenting a HMS cer cut > 1.5, but there are still significant particles that need to be cleaned up.
1091
** Fixed binning issue
1092
*** Issue with the binning script was causing many average kin per bin values to be zero.
1093
*** The scripts were completely rewritten and things look very nice now.
1094
** Separated Xsects Script
1095
*** Finished debugging the script that separates the cross section.
1096
*** The binning issue was hiding other FORTRAN related issues, in particular, with the input files that are generated.
1097
** SIMC MM
1098
*** Very broad and long tail on kaon MM generated by SIMC. Still under investigation.
1099
** SIMC High Q2
1100
*** There were negative MM and other variables being generated by SIMC for high Q2 settings.
1101
*** Likely caused by sigT going negative. By setting some of sigT's parameterization to zero, the issue should be resolved. Still under investigation.

** Bill's cross-section code is broken into two major parts. The root analysis part, which takes all the yields, uncertainties, etc., is nearly complete with the connecting ltsep framework script finishing up. The second part, where many of the final plots and cross-sections are done, is a hard-coded mess. Richard is in the process of making this more dynamic. This aspect will take more time but the root analysis part is the bulk of the analysis anyways.

*** Richard has emailed Peter about the issue with no response yet (follow-up soon)

* SHMS Reference Time Amplitude Cuts(Stephen)
2591
** Extra peaks in HG from cross-talk and "ghost-bands" due to ADC screw up
2592
*** cuts applied on SHMS ADC ref time amplitude (greater than zero) done before any further event selection and histogram filling
2593
** This is a temporary fix to "ghost-bands" and cross talk
2594
*** Although for HG there is still a small peak. The hodoscope is fine.
2595
** The time window is easier to set now.
2596
** DC has been fine (since it uses TDC)
2597
*** DC calibrations should be good to complete, other detectors need more fixes (i.e. the remaining "ghost-band")
2598
** Hodoscope still bad but this might be because of that "ghost-band", needs to be further investigated
2599 1 Richard Trotta
2600 67 Richard Trotta
* Peter's hcana fixes for reference time (Richard)
2601
** Peter implemented changes to hcana
2602 1 Richard Trotta
** Two major issues...
2603 67 Richard Trotta
## Amplitude goes to null and integral is low or negative which causes a rate-dependent efficiency.
2604 1 Richard Trotta
*** Peter has used the average pulse value acquired over a large sample of runs for each detector.
2605 67 Richard Trotta
## Timing offset between EL-REAL and 3/4 is 130 ns which causes junk tracks at high SHMS rates (~6% of the time)
2606
*** Peter created a routine to find the best offset by means of matching TDC and ADC
2607
** Richard has been checking for bugs in the code.
2608
*** It seems to be ready to implement, Richard emailed Peter for confirmation on the implementation in our group directory
2609 1 Richard Trotta
2610 67 Richard Trotta
* Calibration of HMS detectors when the timing is agreed upon by Stephen and Richard.
2611 65 Richard Trotta

2612 62 Richard Trotta

2747
** resolving differences between his analysis and Richard's
2748
2749
* Richard
2750
** Discussed with Mark Jones and is cross checking his January luminosity scan analysis against Mark's. Realized that BCM calibrations (gains, offsets etc) are different - currently working on fixing that, presents current results - low curent point is ~10% below unity, discussion that this seems to indicate that BCM offsets are the issue as low current points would be most sensitive, is planning to also double-check the BCM calibration procedure - had discussion with Dave Mack at JLab
2751
** Presents a script developed for luminosity scans that determines yields for a run number input on command line. Discussion this could be good to adapt for kaon counting during experiment.

2764 35 Stephen Kay
2765 111 Richard Trotta
* Luminosity scans (Richard, Ryan)
2766 35 Stephen Kay
** Carbon scan from April seems consistent with no boiling, LH3 and LD2 show deviation from unity, should check effect of EDTM events on efficiencies
2767
** Carbon scans from January (low rates) have large deviations from unity, in particular behavior at higher currents (>40uA), e.g. cpu dead time, that is not yet understood
2768 1 Richard Trotta
** discussion about pre-scale factors
2769 35 Stephen Kay
2770

2778
** Luminosity scans at low rates from January (Richard)
2779

2789
2790
* Luminosity Scans January 2018 (Richard)
2791
** Tracking-based analysis for Runs 1415-1423, .. for now focus on HMS, typical HMS S1X rates are <
2792
** Cuts applied: PID for electrons (Cer, Cal), acceptance (delta)
2793
** Efficiency calculation was investigated in detail and applied using scalers from trees
2794
** Results for carbon (normalized to 30uA) show large variation - need to understand
2795
** *Next steps:*
2796
*** Double check calculation of computer lifetime, look for differences in TRIG and PRETRIG scalers
2797
*** Check stability of pre-scale (Ryan saw changes within runs)
2798
*** Check if detector calibrations for runs are implemented correctly
2799 1 Richard Trotta
*** Analyze with Ryan's cuts
2800 35 Stephen Kay
2801
* Luminosity Scans April 2018 (Ryan)
2802
** Confirms Richard's earlier finding that scaler-based analysis is not reliable and that it's best to analyze event-by-event
2803
** Tracking-based analysis for runs 2073-2095
2804
** Cuts applied: PID for electrons (TOF, Cal, Chi2), acceptance (delta and angles), BCM4a
2805
** Included most recent detector calibrations in replay of these runs
2806
** Efficiencies from report file mainly, may need to update tracking efficiency implementation
2807
** Found that calculations of computer deadtime requires different set of scalers for runs from January to those from April 2018
2808
** Results show carbon yields consistent with unity within error (0.5% error bars), and boiling for hydrogen and deuterium
2809 5 Richard Trotta
** *Next steps:*
2810 35 Stephen Kay
*** Check tracking efficiency
2811
2812 1 Richard Trotta
* *Global comments on Luminosity Scans (so far)*
2813 35 Stephen Kay
** April 2018 scans show hydrogen and deuterium target boiling on level of 3-4%, Carbon is consistent with no boiling, as expected - based on description, new targets are expected to have less boiling than those used previously, e.g. in FPI2. Double check this.
2814
** Efficiencies in report files need to be updated, e.g. CPU deadtime (Richard)
2815
** Check if BCM4a is the one closest to the target - get a map of the hall (Richard, Ryan)
2816
** Uncertainties on current
2817 1 Richard Trotta
** Detector calibrations
2818 35 Stephen Kay
** HMS vs. SHMS
2819
2820
* eK+ coincidence time from SIDIS Spring 2018 run (Samip)
2821
** Worked with Mark Jones on coincidence time calculation - now available in hcana (see Samip's 10 May 2018 email for more details)
2822
** runs used in this analysis: 3423 with Q2=3.1 GeV2 and W=2.78 GeV
2823
** Coincidence time spectrum shows peak separations >2 ns corresponding to different accelerator frequency
2824
** Missing mass spectra: Kaon peak clearly visible, also see pions even after cuts
2825 1 Richard Trotta
** Found that pions appear localized in phase space - seems to be due to end point in kinematic phase space
2826 2 Richard Trotta
** *Next steps:*
2827 35 Stephen Kay
*** Look for a run with kaon momentum closer to 3 GeV/c (aerogel threshold is ~3 GeV/c for kaons for n=1.015)
2828
2829
* Yield normalized ratios from SIDIS (Hem)
2830
** Yield ratios of data to MC match well in shape, but normalization seems not quite right
2831 4 Richard Trotta
** *Next steps:*
2832
*** Check if efficiencies, currents, run time etc. are taken into account correctly

2840
* Discussion luminosity scan analysis (earlier scan) - Richard
2841
** Shown is a scaler-based analysis using scalers from report file and from ROOT tree - the values are different, why that is has to be checked
2842
** Notes on efficiencies in report file:
2843
*** DT (EDTM) is not electronic deadtime. Instead use for now 50ns* trigger rate for HMS and 100ns* trigger rate for SHMS
2844
*** Cherenkov efficiency seems low (check if that is due to PID, thresholds, pi/e, etc)
2845
*** Tracking efficiency needs to be checked
2846
*** 3/4 trigger efficiency seems ok
2847
* Discussion luminosity scan analysis (later scan) - Ryan
2848
** Fewer carbon runs than earlier scan
2849 111 Richard Trotta
** Shown is a tracking-based analysis using data from the ROOT trees
2850 35 Stephen Kay
** First results for carbon, LH3, and LD2, but efficiencies need to be checked
2851
* SIDIS analysis - Hem
2852
** Shown is a data/MC comparison for different kinematic settings. Agreement in shape is very good. Normalization has yet to be applied.
2853
** Discussion about agreement in z and apparent offset - relation of this offset with spectrometer offset
2854
* Analysis of exclusive events in SIDIS - Samip
2855
** Shown is a look at the first kaon events in exclusive limit of SIDIS data
2856
** Ongoing work on implementing coincidence time into tree
2857
* Discussion of run plan, and in particular possible low Q2/low energy
2858
** Assume that kaon low Q2=0.4 already included - have kinematics with specified beam energies, if needed
2859
** For pion form factor and LT, have two possible settings that can use the prescribed beam energies: Q2=1.45 and 0.35 GeV2 - prioritize towards the higher Q2 as not as sensitive to offsets
2860
** Garth will put this together in a draft email

* Discussion of Andres' slides on elastic W calculation in hcana - initial issue with negative W values seems to be due to outdated information in standard.kinematics file. Additional investigation ongoing.
2880
* Brief description of Samip's work - working on coincidence timing decoding with JLab staff and re-optimization of kinematics
2881
* Discussion of Richard's slides on run plan kinematics and preparations -
2882
** everyone agrees that in general want to have as many L/T cross section separations as possible in a robust run plan balancing statistics vs. systematics
2883
** before actual run may want to do a 3D optimization in all kinematic variables to get the best possible delta(epsilon) for the L/T separations
2884
** for each setting will need 1-2 shifts for calibrations - need to negotiate with other experiments in run group
