** Using the same functional forms as Q2=4.4, W=32.74
19
** Ratios look fairly flat with little structure. There are 2-3 bins that dip and need investigation
20
** The distributions look okay overall, but more iterations will be needed (currently only 3). The delta distributions, in particular, are a bit off.

** After the changes to simc vertex variables, a new set of functional forms were found that work quite well for Q2=4.4, W=2.74
42
** There is still a bit of fluctuation in the cross sections so more iterations are needed to stabilize these.

** When we evaluate the functional form of sigm_L for -t value in SIMC, in particular at low -t bins, which are beyond the range of data, we obtain high values of sigm_L leading to bigger discrepency between SIMC and data yields.
164
** Data/SIMC ratios at low -t bins are improved by limiting the parameter in the exponential of sigm_L.

** Tried out a few empirical background fits which improved the results quite a bit. There are few, if any bad bins, with ratios looking pretty flat. Going forward, a 2nd order Chebyshev will be used. With and without pion subtraction was also tested with small differences, but pion subtraction will remain to get a better empirical fit.

** The pion subtraction procedure has been refined, leading to a noticeable improvement in the cross-section ratios at Qยฒ = 4.4 GeVยฒ and W = 2.74 GeV (center setting only).
332
** Tighter MM_K cuts were applied, yielding a modest additional improvement in the ratios.
333
** Some bins still exhibit contamination. However, incorporating all kinematic settings should mitigate this to some extent. If residual sigma contamination persists, a dedicated sigma fit may be necessary once all settings are fully examined.

** Resolved a minor bug in the pion subtraction uncertainty calculation and refined the pion scaling factor to enhance subtraction accuracy. Additionally, a new formulation for the unseparated cross section was implemented, based on the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality and constrained by L,T>0.
363 1 Richard Trotta
** Using the updates described above, new models were constructed for Q2=4.4 and W=2.74. Comparisons between data and SIMC show good agreement, with stable ratios and solid cross section fits. While further refinements are needed, this model provides a strong foundation.

** Although the Qยฒ = 3.0, W = 3.14 ratio appears promising at first glance, the kinematic and acceptance plots clearly indicate that the older functional form provides a superior fit. Encouragingly, the three key scaling pointsโ€”Qยฒ/W = 3.0/2.32, 4.4/2.74, and 5.5/3.02โ€”continue to use this form consistently. These will be the main focus in preparation for the upcoming Hall A/C meeting in June.

** A dip in the unseparated cross section at 180ยฐ was traced to a ROOT issue: while a cut on the NTuple successfully excluded bad data in the TGraph, the TF2 fitting function ignored the cut; this was resolved by applying the cut directly in the Fortran script before loading into ROOT.

** Qยฒ = 3.0, W = 2.32 analysis is progressing well. The t-dependence of the ratios is flat, with minimal structure, consistent with the same functional form used at Qยฒ = 4.4 and 5.5. Some tuning of the W-dependence is still needed to bring the ratios closer to unity. Kinematics and acceptances between data and SIMC are closely matched. However, an unusually large LT/TT cross-section has been observed and warrants further investigation.

** The setting Qยฒ = 5.5, W = 3.02 aligns well with the functional form used at Qยฒ = 4.4, W = 2.74. However, statistics are limited at this Qยฒ, and the kinematic coverage extends into higher |t| values (tโ‚˜โ‚โ‚“ โ‰ˆ 0.9). To improve the statistical reliability, tโ‚˜โ‚โ‚“ will be reduced, which should yield slightly improved ratios in the upper bin. This high-|t| behavior is consistent with observations at Qยฒ = 3.0, W = 2.32 and Qยฒ = 4.4, W = 2.74. Focus will now shift to the Qยฒ = 3.0, W = 2.32 setting.

** Model cross-sections were compared for most of the Q2s. There were several iterations which included a +0.2 term to the t-dependence of sigL. sigT now used the model from Tanja's "global analysis":https://journals.aps.org/prc/pdf/10.1103/PhysRevC.85.018202 which is coming along. Pion subtraction still needs to be incorporated and things should improve further from there.

** Properly Calculated Statistical Uncertainties
1379
*** Ali and I went through and properly implemented statistical uncertainties (double-checked with Garth on Monday). This included updating HMS cerenkov and calorimeter efficiencies that needed to use a "golden singles run" to avoid contamination. A bug in the ratio per bin was fixed so that proper average ratio per bins were found.
1380
** SIMC Aerogel/HGCer geometric cuts were implemented.
1381
** Particle Subtraction Script was updated. Just need pion samples from Ali.
1382
** Beginning Unsep-xsect Systematic Studies
1383
** Continued issues with generating new parameterization
1384
*** Unsep xsect fits are starting to look good, but the script to generate improved parameterization generates insane fits. Likely a change to the model is needed. In particular, sigT will need adjustments.

** Update on the SIMC resolution study for Kaon-LT 10.6 GeV data.
1393
** SIMC SHMS DC resolution was tunned to have better agreement b/w data nnd MC. A large resolution multiplication factor of 9 is used. This will hopefully decrease with improvement in data resolution.
1394
** SIMC HMS DC resolution (suggested by Dave G.) doesn't make a huge difference.
1395 710 Ali Usman
** The resolution of MC looked worse than data after t-bining. This will be improved with a lower multiplication factor.

** SIMC Weight
1406
*** In order to get Ydata/Ysimc to be even close to unity I needed to divide the SIMC weight by 10^6. I was applying the weight for the histograms but not binned data.
1407
** SIMC MM
1408
*** The long radiative tail from simc MM has mostly been resolved by using the correct decay length and properly recalculating the MM using recon_hcana.
1409
** MM PID Analysis
1410
*** Played around with MM cuts to see PID of leak through/higher K+ channels.
1411
*** Increasing aerogel cut from aero > 3.0 to > 4.5 should resolve some of the issues, but more probably needs to be done.
1412
** MM cut: Yield Comparison
1413
*** Using an MM cut of 1.10 < MM < 1.18 produced shockingly consistent yields for Q2=2.115

1424
** The weight iteration script is working, but there is an issue with either the SIMC weight or unit charge which is causing me to include a 10^-6 factor in the SIMC weight which messes up the rest of the iteration scripts.

1433
** Issues with dummy runs
1434
*** The dtype error for some dummy runs was caused by empty trees when applying the CT cuts.
1435
*** The source of these fails cuts was because the CT offset applied at the replay level was skipped for these runs and thus the CT peak was not where the cut expected.
1436
** Weird t-distribution
1437
*** Multiple peaks seen in the t-distribution were caused by various particle leakthrough.
1438
*** This was cleaned up a bit by implimenting a HMS cer cut > 1.5, but there are still significant particles that need to be cleaned up.
1439
** Fixed binning issue
1440
*** Issue with the binning script was causing many average kin per bin values to be zero.
1441
*** The scripts were completely rewritten and things look very nice now.
1442
** Separated Xsects Script
1443
*** Finished debugging the script that separates the cross section.
1444
*** The binning issue was hiding other FORTRAN related issues, in particular, with the input files that are generated.
1445
** SIMC MM
1446
*** Very broad and long tail on kaon MM generated by SIMC. Still under investigation.
1447
** SIMC High Q2
1448
*** There were negative MM and other variables being generated by SIMC for high Q2 settings.
1449
*** Likely caused by sigT going negative. By setting some of sigT's parameterization to zero, the issue should be resolved. Still under investigation.

2249
** Bill's cross-section code is broken into two major parts. The root analysis part, which takes all the yields, uncertainties, etc., is nearly complete with the connecting ltsep framework script finishing up. The second part, where many of the final plots and cross-sections are done, is a hard-coded mess. Richard is in the process of making this more dynamic. This aspect will take more time but the root analysis part is the bulk of the analysis anyways.

*** Richard has emailed Peter about the issue with no response yet (follow-up soon)

* SHMS Reference Time Amplitude Cuts(Stephen)
2939
** Extra peaks in HG from cross-talk and "ghost-bands" due to ADC screw up
2940
*** cuts applied on SHMS ADC ref time amplitude (greater than zero) done before any further event selection and histogram filling
2941
** This is a temporary fix to "ghost-bands" and cross talk
2942
*** Although for HG there is still a small peak. The hodoscope is fine.
2943
** The time window is easier to set now.
2944
** DC has been fine (since it uses TDC)
2945
*** DC calibrations should be good to complete, other detectors need more fixes (i.e. the remaining "ghost-band")
2946
** Hodoscope still bad but this might be because of that "ghost-band", needs to be further investigated
2947 1 Richard Trotta
2948 67 Richard Trotta
* Peter's hcana fixes for reference time (Richard)
2949
** Peter implemented changes to hcana
2950 1 Richard Trotta
** Two major issues...
2951 67 Richard Trotta
## Amplitude goes to null and integral is low or negative which causes a rate-dependent efficiency.
2952 1 Richard Trotta
*** Peter has used the average pulse value acquired over a large sample of runs for each detector.
2953 67 Richard Trotta
## Timing offset between EL-REAL and 3/4 is 130 ns which causes junk tracks at high SHMS rates (~6% of the time)
2954
*** Peter created a routine to find the best offset by means of matching TDC and ADC
2955
** Richard has been checking for bugs in the code.
2956
*** It seems to be ready to implement, Richard emailed Peter for confirmation on the implementation in our group directory
2957 1 Richard Trotta
2958 67 Richard Trotta
* Calibration of HMS detectors when the timing is agreed upon by Stephen and Richard.
2959 65 Richard Trotta
** Besides hodoscope which still has an issue with the script
2960 62 Richard Trotta
** Stephen and Richard are having a meeting late next week to determine time window values

3094
* Ryan
3095
** resolving differences between his analysis and Richard's
3096
3097
* Richard
3098
** Discussed with Mark Jones and is cross checking his January luminosity scan analysis against Mark's. Realized that BCM calibrations (gains, offsets etc) are different - currently working on fixing that, presents current results - low curent point is ~10% below unity, discussion that this seems to indicate that BCM offsets are the issue as low current points would be most sensitive, is planning to also double-check the BCM calibration procedure - had discussion with Dave Mack at JLab
3099
** Presents a script developed for luminosity scans that determines yields for a run number input on command line. Discussion this could be good to adapt for kaon counting during experiment.

3112 35 Stephen Kay
3113 111 Richard Trotta
* Luminosity scans (Richard, Ryan)
3114 35 Stephen Kay
** Carbon scan from April seems consistent with no boiling, LH3 and LD2 show deviation from unity, should check effect of EDTM events on efficiencies
3115
** Carbon scans from January (low rates) have large deviations from unity, in particular behavior at higher currents (>40uA), e.g. cpu dead time, that is not yet understood
3116 1 Richard Trotta
** discussion about pre-scale factors
3117 35 Stephen Kay
3118
* Discussion about Richard's script extracting and printing information from report files and trees including histograms
3119

3121 35 Stephen Kay
3122
* H(e,e'p) kinematics investigation for fall run (Samip)
3123 1 Richard Trotta
** Optimal range is between electron angles of 17-20 degrees, time required ranges from ~1 hour at 17 degrees to ~3 hour at 20 degrees, other angles may be of interest for disentangling charge and current dependent effects
3124 35 Stephen Kay
3125

3126
** Luminosity scans at low rates from January (Richard)
3127

3137
3138
* Luminosity Scans January 2018 (Richard)
3139
** Tracking-based analysis for Runs 1415-1423, .. for now focus on HMS, typical HMS S1X rates are <
3140
** Cuts applied: PID for electrons (Cer, Cal), acceptance (delta)
3141
** Efficiency calculation was investigated in detail and applied using scalers from trees
3142
** Results for carbon (normalized to 30uA) show large variation - need to understand
3143
** *Next steps:*
3144
*** Double check calculation of computer lifetime, look for differences in TRIG and PRETRIG scalers
3145
*** Check stability of pre-scale (Ryan saw changes within runs)
3146
*** Check if detector calibrations for runs are implemented correctly
3147 1 Richard Trotta
*** Analyze with Ryan's cuts
3148 35 Stephen Kay
3149
* Luminosity Scans April 2018 (Ryan)
3150
** Confirms Richard's earlier finding that scaler-based analysis is not reliable and that it's best to analyze event-by-event
3151
** Tracking-based analysis for runs 2073-2095
3152
** Cuts applied: PID for electrons (TOF, Cal, Chi2), acceptance (delta and angles), BCM4a
3153
** Included most recent detector calibrations in replay of these runs
3154
** Efficiencies from report file mainly, may need to update tracking efficiency implementation
3155
** Found that calculations of computer deadtime requires different set of scalers for runs from January to those from April 2018
3156
** Results show carbon yields consistent with unity within error (0.5% error bars), and boiling for hydrogen and deuterium
3157 5 Richard Trotta
** *Next steps:*
3158 35 Stephen Kay
*** Check tracking efficiency
3159
3160 1 Richard Trotta
* *Global comments on Luminosity Scans (so far)*
3161 35 Stephen Kay
** April 2018 scans show hydrogen and deuterium target boiling on level of 3-4%, Carbon is consistent with no boiling, as expected - based on description, new targets are expected to have less boiling than those used previously, e.g. in FPI2. Double check this.
3162
** Efficiencies in report files need to be updated, e.g. CPU deadtime (Richard)
3163
** Check if BCM4a is the one closest to the target - get a map of the hall (Richard, Ryan)
3164
** Uncertainties on current
3165 1 Richard Trotta
** Detector calibrations
3166 35 Stephen Kay
** HMS vs. SHMS
3167
3168
* eK+ coincidence time from SIDIS Spring 2018 run (Samip)
3169
** Worked with Mark Jones on coincidence time calculation - now available in hcana (see Samip's 10 May 2018 email for more details)
3170
** runs used in this analysis: 3423 with Q2=3.1 GeV2 and W=2.78 GeV
3171
** Coincidence time spectrum shows peak separations >2 ns corresponding to different accelerator frequency
3172
** Missing mass spectra: Kaon peak clearly visible, also see pions even after cuts
3173 1 Richard Trotta
** Found that pions appear localized in phase space - seems to be due to end point in kinematic phase space
3174 2 Richard Trotta
** *Next steps:*
3175 35 Stephen Kay
*** Look for a run with kaon momentum closer to 3 GeV/c (aerogel threshold is ~3 GeV/c for kaons for n=1.015)
3176
3177
* Yield normalized ratios from SIDIS (Hem)
3178
** Yield ratios of data to MC match well in shape, but normalization seems not quite right
3179 4 Richard Trotta
** *Next steps:*
3180
*** Check if efficiencies, currents, run time etc. are taken into account correctly

3188
* Discussion luminosity scan analysis (earlier scan) - Richard
3189
** Shown is a scaler-based analysis using scalers from report file and from ROOT tree - the values are different, why that is has to be checked
3190
** Notes on efficiencies in report file:
3191
*** DT (EDTM) is not electronic deadtime. Instead use for now 50ns* trigger rate for HMS and 100ns* trigger rate for SHMS
3192
*** Cherenkov efficiency seems low (check if that is due to PID, thresholds, pi/e, etc)
3193
*** Tracking efficiency needs to be checked
3194
*** 3/4 trigger efficiency seems ok
3195
* Discussion luminosity scan analysis (later scan) - Ryan
3196
** Fewer carbon runs than earlier scan
3197 111 Richard Trotta
** Shown is a tracking-based analysis using data from the ROOT trees
3198 35 Stephen Kay
** First results for carbon, LH3, and LD2, but efficiencies need to be checked
3199
* SIDIS analysis - Hem
3200
** Shown is a data/MC comparison for different kinematic settings. Agreement in shape is very good. Normalization has yet to be applied.
3201
** Discussion about agreement in z and apparent offset - relation of this offset with spectrometer offset
3202
* Analysis of exclusive events in SIDIS - Samip
3203
** Shown is a look at the first kaon events in exclusive limit of SIDIS data
3204
** Ongoing work on implementing coincidence time into tree
3205
* Discussion of run plan, and in particular possible low Q2/low energy
3206
** Assume that kaon low Q2=0.4 already included - have kinematics with specified beam energies, if needed
3207
** For pion form factor and LT, have two possible settings that can use the prescribed beam energies: Q2=1.45 and 0.35 GeV2 - prioritize towards the higher Q2 as not as sensitive to offsets
3208
** Garth will put this together in a draft email

* Discussion of Andres' slides on elastic W calculation in hcana - initial issue with negative W values seems to be due to outdated information in standard.kinematics file. Additional investigation ongoing.
3228
* Brief description of Samip's work - working on coincidence timing decoding with JLab staff and re-optimization of kinematics
3229
* Discussion of Richard's slides on run plan kinematics and preparations -
3230
** everyone agrees that in general want to have as many L/T cross section separations as possible in a robust run plan balancing statistics vs. systematics
3231
** before actual run may want to do a 3D optimization in all kinematic variables to get the best possible delta(epsilon) for the L/T separations
