Richard Updates
23
---------------
24
LT separation code
25
- Debugged issues with Bill's code
26
- Inputs our root files, gets his root files out
27
- Need to update framework, some variable naming, etc. but otherwise the
28
modifications are complete
29
- Bill will be giving a talk to us next week
30
- GH suggests sending questions to Bill via email in advance
31
32
Luminosity scans
33
- looked at new runs taken during SIDIS that Peter Bosted suggested in the
34
analysis meeting
35
- these are at 10.6 GeV with SHMS negative polarity, so very useful
36
- Runs 7948-7952 Carbon (neg polarity) shown
37
- rate dependence looks generally pretty good
38
39
IMPROVEMENTS MADE:
40
- Looked at ELCLEAN vs ELREAL in scaler analysis
41
- some rate dependences were improved, but others were worse, details not
42
given
43
- Switched back to ELREAL for now
44
- found an error in SHMS code, should have EventType=1&3 for everything,
45
some were missing #1 by mistake
46
- opened up current threshold for some runs
47
48
- GH: Was the 0.1 uA offset discussed previously added? RT: No.
49
- carbon runs 7948-52 fairly flat ~5% variation, but a low current offset
50
of a few percent would make this even flatter
51
- 5uA run ~2% high?
52
- would match with suggested ~0.1uA offset
53
- runs 7954-60 show small evidence of LH2 boiling, consistent between both
54
spectrometers
55
56
- 10.6 GeV runs 5154-5299 still have some weird effect on the SHMS carbon
57
runs
58
- HMS runs look very good
59
- runs 5175-5301 improved a lot after EventType fix
60
- 10.6 GeV runs Peter mentioned look very good overall (5351 - 5358)
61
- Highest current point looks odd (current cut issue?)
62
- Carbon basically done, LH2 needs a little fixing (plots)
63
64
- Cryotarget boiling correction should be the same at all beam energies
65
- Qualitatively, looks like this may be the case
66
- Dummy target Lumi scan up to 40uA available too
67
- Will post plots on Redmine
68
69
Ali Updates
70
-----------
71
HeeP Coin offset study update
72
- Peter looked at 6.2, 8.2 and 10.6 GeV pion/kaon data from KaonLT
73
Got a correction factor of 0.998 on HMS central momentum
74
- Calculated from Holly's formula
75
- Momentum correction was applied already in Holly's magnet setting
76
program in PionLT?
77
- *Jacob* will follow up with Holly and figure out when this was
78
actually applied
79
- DG - At low momentum, this correction had some weird behavior
80
- Peter has a vertical angle offset in HMS (~2.7 mrad)
81
- No SHMS central momentum or angle correction
82
- His study showed pion/kaon MM peaks at roughly the correct place (~2-3 MeV
83
off)
84
85
- Ali shows his before/after plots (of W) for each beam energy using Peter's
86
offsets
87
- 6.2 GeV, correction overcorrects the data. No offset actually gives
88
best result
89
- 8.2 GeV, correction improves things a lot
90
- 10.6 GeV, correction improves things, but now the peak shift is in the
91
opposite direction than with no offset
92
- See slides for P_HMS/P_SHMS values
93
- Still need to add vertical angle offset, but this won't really shift W
94
95
- JM - 6.59 GeV/c central momentum offset for the HMS for the runs Ali was
96
showing changed a lot
97
- digs up some old tables from his earlier analysis to demonstrate this,
98
runs 4806-4825 (KaonLT 10.6GeV delta scan)
99
- DG points out that the angle was changing here too in some cases
100
- Even still, there are some run to run shifts in this scan
101
- NMR readback was shifting a lot in these runs, was the dipole actually
102
locked here?
103
- Is there an EPICS variable for the NMR lock?
104
- If not, there probably should be
105
- The MyaPlot archive will show whether the NMR was locked or not for
106
these runs
107
- Run sheets indicate there was some adjustment of the HMS between 4806
108
and 4808
109
- most likely the shift crew had the NMR locked, but hadn't waited
110
long enough for the HMS to settle and got an alarm after run 4806
111
(such as at beginning of junk 4807) and made an adjustment before
112
4808 to bring things to spec
113
- JM, AU, RT, VK will continue to *discuss* this offline
114
115
- Ali shows before/after emiss plots (with Peter's offsets)
116
- None of them look great
117
- 8.2 GeV looks "best", data looks broader
118
- 6.2 GeV looks worse than with no offset
119
- pmy looks quite different between data/SIMC
120
- No vertical offset applied here though
121
122
*IMPORTANT*
123
- RT - Peter has some different tweaks for SIMC, for example he
124
re-calculates all variables on his own to be sure things are done the same
125
way for both MC and data
126
- the fact that Peter sees good agreement between Data & MC but Ali doesn't
127
with same offsets should be a real concern
128
- the different variable definitions v.likely a contributing factor
129
- DG: Resolving this should be a priority!
130
- hcana variable definitions are more straightforward than in SIMC, so
131
suggestion is to modify SIMC to use identical formulas as hcana
132
- *Richard* will take a look at adding in new SIMC variables where they're
133
calculated to match hcana
134
135
Vijay Updates
136
-------------
137
Low energy lumi scan plots (runs 8456-70 carbon scaler analysis)
138
- generally things look promising, with ~5% variation
139
- Scaler yield shows increasing trend for HMS and SHMS carbon
140
- Will need to play around with beam current offset
141
- HMS and SHMS look different which is slightly odd
142
- For low current run, may just need to apply an offset
143
- Error bars for track yield lumi scans are very large
144
- Scaler yield - applying CPULT
145
- Should not be applying CPULT
146
- Only need to apply electronic LT correction
147
- Determine from comparison between CPU/EDTM LTs
148
- Should also be using ELCLEAN or ELREAL, not total triggers, which is too
149
loose at high rate
150
- ELREAL is probably best
151
- will discuss further offline

- Met with Holly yesterday
162
- Target length and optical matrix
163
- Discussed using A1N/D2N matrix elements: shouldn't really affect us too
164
much
165
- Jacob will check and compare with what we have to confirm this though
166
167
Scanning through kinematics for PionLT
168
- Making a master standard.kinematics file
169
- Updating angles/energy in same way as KaonLT
170
171
Vijay Discussion - Scaler Tree
172
- Scaler current plot
173
- Clarification of scaler reads
174
- Richard shows in his code how this is done - scaler.py
175
- A little less intuitive in how these are counted and the sum is determined
176
- Can't just integrate over the tree
177
- Need to explicitly go through the tree one event at a time
178
179
Stephen Updates
180
---------------
181

183
- In hcana, runs ok
184
- Need to test and check it looks OK
185
- Flat vs beta for each particle type (with PID cuts for particle)
186
- Will try to make some plots and show in an upcoming meeting
187
- Implementation differs slightly from Shuo, will discuss
188
