Junaid Updates
20
--------------
21
HMS Calorimeter calibrations
22
- updated Cherenkov cut from 5->7 pe and delta cut now +/-8%
23
- still getting wiggles in delta vs Edep/P at high delta
24
- wiggles worse at 2.2 GeV/c than 3.8 GeV/c, but still present
25

26
- DG: it looks like we're going to have to live with it, will have to make calor
27
cut a bit broader than otherwise, but #pi- is small anyways
28

29
- PB: why are you calibrating run-by-run? If you calibrate too much, you will
30
actually introduce a false dependence to the data
31
  - better to look at the position and width of the calor peak and decide from
32
there whether its stable or need to re-calibrate
33
  - if the efficiency of the E/P cut varies <0.1% it's good enough
34

35
- DG: the calibration will change with momentum and rate (such as changing
36
target). The PMTs are not optimized for high rate >100kHz
37

38
- GH: expect we should only have to calibrate for every setting, as DG suggests
39
  - can look at E/P for different sections of the focal plane (e.g. bin in 2%
40
delta), and look for changes corresponding to >0.1% cut efficiency change
41

42
Nathan Updates
43
--------------
44
HGC calibrations
45
- was away camping Sat-Wed, so not much done last week
46
- HGC calib params vs Run#
47
  - DG asked DMack his opinion, might have been due to too high rate on HGC
48
PMTs, leading to gain dep, suggests running at lower HV, particularly when
49
    SHMS at very forward angle
50
- param files will be put into standard.database
51
- NH considering whether calib discontinuity synchronizes with a setting
52
change, and adjust the step functions accordingly
53
  - many are associated w/5.5deg running, as DMack suggests
54
  - NH hasn't made a final decision on this yet
55

56
- JR: how did you choose which runs to analyze?
57
  - each point is a whole setting, which is placed at the Run# corresponding to
58
    middle of setting
59

60
Next tasks (after HGC calib implemented & documented):
61
- help JM w/ calor calib
62
- also continue checks on standard.kinematics
63

64
Vijay Updates
65
-------------
66
No report, was working on writing thesis (systematics chapter)
67
- plans to get plots of TrackEff and other Effs before starting Lumi study
68
- hopes to have these plots in 1-2 weeks
69

70
Richard Updates
71
---------------
72
Editing Yield Calc code
73
- lots of discussions w/Ali this week
74
- adjusted code to do random & dummy subtractions for each (t,phi) bin
75

76
Finishing up Geometric cut for HGC in SIMC
77
- also Aerogel cut to select part of Focal Plane where aerogel actually is
78
(based on npe plot vs X,Y)
79
- PB: please let him know the final aerogel cuts used, as he found that the
80
tray cut differs from the geometry info from Vardan
81

82
Placing detector cuts in hcana/SIMC
83
- PB: best to apply cuts to SIMC data, not in SIMC itself, turned all flag cuts
84
off, then placed a cut on calorimeter position (projected a few cm from the
85
front, not at the face location)
86
- DG: In hallc_replay_lt there’s a cut 5 cm from the edge of the calorimeter
87
(top and bottom) and left and right.
88
  - RT: Great, thanks Dave. So I really just need to uncomment it in SIMC and
89
should be set with calorimeter geo cuts
90
  - DG: And check what the cut is in SIMC
91

92
Alica Updates
93
-------------
94
It has been decided that AP and AU will have different t-bins
95
- question is what kind of binning is needed?
96
- we look at plots of sigLT' vs -t, and plots of BSA vs. phi
97
- the asymmetry vanishes in parallel kinematics (-t_min) and grows with a
98
"square root like function" for (t-t_min)>0
99

100
AP will try smaller -t bins near -t_min, will also look at reducing #phi bins
101
- PB: uses 15 phi bins, someone convinced him earlier that an odd number of
102
bins is best, for low stats he uses 9 bins
103

104
JR: how did the meeting with Pawel Sznajder (Nat.Cent.Nucl.Res. Poland) go on
105
  PARTONS implementation?
106
- we met last Friday. Implementing cross section into the code framework is
107
less straightforward than the asymmetry, which is why it hadn't been done
108
yet, but it should be possible
109
- showed him the discrepancy we see compared to prior calcs we received
110
directly from Kroll, he will investigate. Prefers if he do the
111
implementation himself, rather than AP, so that the correct framework is
112
  utilized.
113
- told him there is a lot of interest in these calcs, would really want them
114
implemented in the official version, so we don't have to repeat it in next
115
  version
116

117
Portia Updates
118
--------------
119
DeltaPi MM spectra for Q2=4.4, center data for 6 phi bins
120
- SIDIS MC overlaid on data, but the SIMC was not binned in phi
121

122
- PB: you need to bin the SIMC events in exactly the same way as the Expt data
123
so that acceptance effects are taken into account
124

125
- GH: treat data & MC in the same way for Left,Center,Right settings, fit SIDIS
126
and DeltaPi SIMC dists to the data (to get the shape) for each, and subtract
127
  - only after the DeltaPi yield is found for each bin for Left,Center,Right
128
separately, do you combine them in an error-weighted average
129

130
- AP: the plan will be to have MM plots with SIDIS and DeltaPi MC included, for
131
each t,phi bin, in 2 weeks
132

133
Next Meeting
134
------------
135
We do not yet know whether our next meeting will be Aug 3 or 10, as it depends
136
on whether DG is available on Aug 3. GH/NH/JM/AP will be on a hiking trip in
137
the Canadian Rockies
138
- Thur Aug 3? @ 16:00 Eastern/14:00 Regina/13:00 Pacific
139
- KaonLT will go first
140

141
Also, please note that our last Zoom reservation for this time is Aug 17. GH
142
will circulate a poll to see if everyone is still available at this time for
143
the fall semester
